Expert seminar: current standards in diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis


From 13. to 17. October 2014 CERMEL hosted the DAAD tuberculosis expert seminar organized in collaboration with the Institute for Tropical Medicine, University of Tübingen, represented by Matthias Frank and Carsten Köhler. The German Academic Exchange Service (“Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst”, DAAD) had generously supported the seminar.

The expert seminar combined lecture sessions and panel discussions on the following topics:

  1. Control of tuberculosis
  2. Management and diagnosis of drug resistant and drug sensitive tuberculosis
  3. Molecular epidemiology and new diagnostics for tuberculosis
  4. South-South and South-North collaborations for training and education

51 participants from Benin, Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Germany, Republic of Congo, The Netherlands, Togo and the United Kingdom contributed to this fruitful seminar tackling crucial issues in the management of tuberculosis in Sub-Saharan Africa.

DAAD working group on treatment of MDR tuberculosis


Attendance of representatives from National Tuberculosis Control Programmes and Ministries of Health will ensure that outcomes of the seminar will be implemented in their respective home country.
